Join us for an update on the situation for theatre artists in France.

Arthur Nauzyciel is a French actor and stage director. Prior to his appointment in 2017 as director of the TNB (Théâtre National de Bretagne), he led the CDN in Orleans.  Nauzyciel studied plastic arts and cinema before training at the Théâtre National de Chaillot, Paris, run by Antoine Vitez. In France,  he has staged many plays including the work of France Samuel Beckett, Thomas Bernhard, Jean Genet, Kaj Munk, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Chekov as well as work based on the writing of Allen Ginsberg, Alexander Dumas, Yannick Haenel. During his inaugural season as the director of the TNB, Arthur Nauzyciel presented in Rennes a selection of his most significant productions: Julius Caesar, The Empire of Light and Jan Karski (Mon nom est une fiction). Nauzyciel has worked in the USA on many occasions. Among his American productions are: two plays by B-M Koltès: Black Battles with Dogs (2001) and Roberto Zucco (2004), staged in Atlanta; Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party (2007) and Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar (2008) for the American Reportory Theater (A.R.T.) in Boston, a production that toured the United States in 2019. He is a frequent collaborator of author-director Pascal Rambert. He has also worked for dance and opera. In 2011 he staged the opera Red Waters by Keren Ann and Bardi Johannsson (Lady and Bird) and contributed to the creation of Play by the choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and the dancer Shantala Shivalingappa and Session (2019) by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Colin Dune.

Keren Ann is an artist, singer-songwriter & music producer who’s songs have been sung or performed by such eclectic and international artists: David Byrne, Iggy Pop, Luz Cascal, Rosa Pasos, Anna Calvi, Jane Birkin, Henri Salvador and Françoise Hardy. In parallel of her solo albums and numerous tours, she has worked on original soundtracks for films (La femme assassinée du monde by Franck Ribière, among others) and theater or contemporary danse (Collaborations with choreographs Sharon Eyal, Damien Jalet…) Grand Prix Sacem for 2019 songwriter, Officier des Arts des Lettres, Chevalier de l’Ordre National du MériteKeren Ann lives in Paris, France.


The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center is proud to announce the fourth weekly line-up of its new global series, SEGAL TALKS. New York, US, and international theatre artists, curators, researchers and academics will talk daily for one hour with Segal Center’s director, Frank Hentschker, about life and art in the Time of Corona and speak about challenges, sorrows, and hopes for the new Weltzustand— the State of the World. The Segal Center is the only theatre institution in New York City and the US creating original programming every day during the week.

The newly introduced ad-free SEGAL TALKS will be live-streamed in English on howlround.tv and on the Segal Center Facebook page. The Segal Theatre Center will raise money for theatre artists and companies. This work is in collaboration with HowlRound Theatre Commons, based at Emerson Collage.
