Kagura: Shinto Temple Dance from Early Japan with Miho Takayasu (Japan)
Segal TheatreIn early Shinto religious festivals, performers of the Japanese temple dance Kagura channeled the divine feminine spirit to her worshippers. A form as ancient as the religious origin story of all performance in Japan—the ecstatic dancing of the goddess Ame-no-Uzume—Kagura is said to predate and influence Noh theatre.
