About the event
Join us for this special two-part event that brings together the Segal World Voices Festival celebrating the work of playwright Kaite O'Reilly (Ireland/UK) and a conversation with contemporary NY-based disabled and Deaf artists. Join us for all or part of this important day exploring the relationship between theatre and bodies of difference.
5:00 pm - 6:30 pm: Reading of selections from the work of Kaite O'Reilly, directed by Katie Butler, followed by a conversation with the playwright
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm: Collective discussion with NY disabled and Deaf artists. The artists will share insights into their creative processes and collectively explore the integral role embodied difference plays in shaping contemporary theatre aesthetics. Reception to follow.
Artists include: Garrett Zuercher (Deaf Broadway), Jessica Vanek + Margaret Hall (both from Autistic Theatre Makers Alliance), Gregg Mozgala (The Apothetae) Alyssa Kitt Hanley (Independent Burlesque Artist), Kayla Hamilton (Circle O), and Katie Butler (Carnegie Mellon University).
